Just before Ohio State’s graduation, while students made their way inside the football stadium, a person plunged from the stands at gate 30. With a call for paramedics to respond, students and families made their way into the stadium, with some even sharing footage of first responders pulling up on the scene.
OSY spokesman Ben Johnson said, “An individual fell from the stands. They are deceased. We have no additional details to share at this time. Police and emergency responders are on the scene. For anyone affected by today’s incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available.” While the name of the deceased was not made available, social media has been talking about the incident nonstop.
One TikTok user commented about the audacity the University had to continue with graduation despite the death, and another talked about seeing the person go over. Many claimed that it was clear the person chose to jump and did so without fanfare. In their words, the sight and sound of the person plunging to their death is something they will never forget.
When the ceremony ended and students were leaving, they had to pass by the cordoned-off impact area, and those who had been in that area of the stands were still very visibly upset. As attendees spread news of the jump amongst each other, nobody was able to place a name to the jumper, nor did anyone from the school, or guest speaker acknowledge the incident.
Unfortunately, officials are keeping this one close to the chest, which should gravely concern OSU students. Historically, when officials are this mum after a suicide, not only are other factors at play, but often coverups.
