By now, it’s no secret that Prince Harry of the British royal family is on the outs, with him and his wife, Meghan Markle, abdicating their official roles. But now, even the lesser, more enjoyable parts of being royal are being cut from Harry’s life.

This became apparent last week when Harry took a quick trip to his homeland for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, an athletic competition for wounded veterans. Normally, such an occasion would include a meeting between father and son, King and prince. But this time, not only did that not happen but Harry was stripped of yet another title and one that he loved dearly.

According to the UK’s Mirror, Harry, as an Army veteran and member of the royal family, used to hold the prestigious title of colonel in chief of the Army Air Corp. According to those close to Harry and the royal family, it was one of the few things about being a royal he actually loved and was proud to do.

But now, that position has been given to another, his older brother and supposed archenemy, Prince William.

King Charles announced it during Harry’s brief visit to England. And according to sources, it’s a move that has pretty much devasted the royal outcast.

As royal expert and author Tom Quinn noted, it’s “a real kick in the teeth for the son who always felt marginalized and underrated. What makes it much worse is that the role is being given to the very man who Harry sees as the cause of so many of his problems – his brother.”

Additionally, the fact that the announcement was made while Harry was known to be in the UK makes it all the more impactful – a sign “that he really is no longer welcome.”

According to sources, Harry was brought to tears when he found out…

Now, of course, this could have all been avoided.

According to the Sunday Times, King Charles offered to let Harry stay at a royal residence for his short trip, ensuring that the two may meet and possibly mend some fences. But Harry declined this offer, choosing to stay at a hotel instead, and in doing so, sealing his fate as an ex-royal.
