California Assembly Member Mike Gipson (D) thinks he has the best idea for tracking guns in California. In a new bill, AB 3067, he is pushing for insurance companies to do the work of building a gun owners database the state has failed to get.
“This bill would require an insurer, by January 1, 2026, to include questions on an application for homeowners’ or renters’ insurance seeking specified information regarding the presence and storage of any firearms kept in the household, accessory structures, or vehicles kept on the property subject to any applicable insurance policy. The bill would require an insurer to annually report this information to the Department of Insurance and the Legislature beginning on January 1, 2027, and would prohibit the inclusion of confidential identifying information in the report.”
With step-by-step instructions included in the bill, Gipson wants them to ask if they have firearms inside the dwelling or shed, and if so, how many. Then, he expects the residents to break down how securely they are being stored and, finally, the number of firearms being held in the vehicle with security measures.
Intel like this isn’t the business of insurance companies or the government. Given the lack of effort CA lawmakers put forth in enforcing the laws of the land, this bill serves as nothing more than to provide their liberal government with intel. Specifically, intel they not only don’t need but don’t have the right to. While he claims it prohibits identifying info, as we have all seen in the past, they’ll just include it, then shrug and say “whoops” when caught.
